2021 Deputy of the Year
Deputy Cheryl Henderson
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office
Deputy Henderson, in her 4 year career with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, has proven herself as a prominent member within the Department of Detention Services. Deputy Henderson has worked in several areas within Detention, including confinement housing, general population, and the medical unit. Deputy Henderson is a Fire, Safety, Sanitation Officer, responsible for inspecting areas within the facility and notating deficiencies to have corrected. Henderson is also a Field Training Deputy, in which she uses her experiences to help develop newer deputies. Deputy Henderson has a professional demeanor and is a leader among her peers. She is always looking for ways to improve herself, her peers and the Department of Detention Services (DDS).
While chosen to work with the Information Services Division (ISD), she began to develop an idea to transform daily paperwork into an electronic process, cutting the cost of printing paper forms. The Post Takeover Checklist is a Detention form used to account for a post’s equipment and specific duties, such as emergency equipment, etc. This form is essential to our daily operation and used at both facilities by sworn and civilian staff. The initial implementation had a few setbacks, but Deputy Henderson worked tirelessly to overcome these setbacks. The improvements made on this form, set the ground work for future e-forms.
Deputy Henderson began her career with Hillsborough County. When not working, she enjoys golf, training for triathlons and CrossFit.
