2020 Firefighter of the Year
Engineer Shannon Parker
Temple Terrace Fire Department
Engineer Shannon Parker started volunteering with the City of Temple Terrace Fire Department in 1989 and would later go on to make it his career. After being hired full time in July of 2006 and promoted to Engineer in 2013, he has continued to be a highly valued member of the department. He is one of a select few that has earned the opportunity to serve on the city’s only aerial apparatus. Ladder 2, which protects the north end of the city, maintains a vital role in the suppression, EMS, prevention, and education needs of our department.
As departments across the county began to recognize the impact that cancer was having on its members, the clean cab initiative was being identified as a long overdue concept. Engineer Parker took it upon himself to bring Ladder 2 into compliance through a tremendous amount of his own time and effort. Every aspect of the department’s aerial clean cab initiative, from design, fabrication, and installation, was overseen and instituted by Engineer Parker. His ongoing sense of pride and ownership has made the department safer for all of its members.
Engineer Parker is engaged to be married to his fiancé Lezlie and is a loving father to his two sons Cody and Caleb. We are proud to honor him as Temple Terrace Fire Department’s 2019 Firefighter of the Year.
