Officer Juan Hernandez

Officer Juan Hernandez has been a member of the Tampa Police Department since 2011. He is currently a Field Training Officer in District II who, not only trains new recruits, but ensures that every call he responds to is investigated in its entirety. Using his investigative skills and unwavering pursuit of offenders, he made a major impact in District II during March 2020 by making several big arrests.
Officer Hernandez investigated a commercial burglary. He located video surveillance from inside of the business and neighboring businesses. Due to the follow up investigation, the suspect vehicle tag was located and the identity of one of the suspects was confirmed. The following day, Officer Hernandez was patrolling the area of Waters and Armenia Avenue when he observed the burglary suspect walking on foot. He coordinated with his squad members and K9 and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. He interviewed the suspect, who provided a post Miranda confession and gave Officer Hernandez the location of the stolen property from the burglary.
Officer Hernandez investigated a strong arm robbery where two suspects robbed the victim for his bag.OfficeHernandez and Officer Traynham located the robbery suspect and took him into custody without incident. Officer Hernandez conducted a post Miranda interview and determined the identity of the second suspect. He then located the second robbery suspect at his residence and took him into custody.
In recognition of his exemplary work as an investigator and Field Training Officer, Officer Juan Hernandez has been selected as the Tampa Police Department’s Officer of the year.
