Trooper Aaron Mora
Florida Highway Patrol
On September 21, 2020, Trooper Mora responded to a call of a driver on Interstate 4 that was reported to be driving recklessly. While en route, the call was updated to a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Trooper Mora saw a vehicle partially submerged in water in a ditch. Trooper Mora contacted a witness to the crash and directed the citizen to help him. Trooper Mora saw the driver of the vehicle slumped over the steering wheel and unresponsive. Trooper Mora made his way through the water and checked the driver’s vital signs, and determined the driver had no pulse and was not breathing. Trooper Mora and the witness extracted the driver from the vehicle, moved him to a flat area, and began CPR. EMS was requested, and while the witness continued CPR, Trooper Mora retrieved an AED from his patrol vehicle. Upon his return, the driver had a weak pulse and shallow breathing. The driver was placed in the recovery position and watched until EMS arrived. Trooper Mora’s quick and decisive lifesaving actions saved the life of the driver, who recovered from the event.
